90 Mile Beach to Cape Reinga
Ninety Mile Beach starts at Ahipara, a small beachside community 13km west of Kaitaia. From your 90 Mile Beach accommodation at Bellovista luxury apartments you can watch over the ever-changing scenery of sea, sand and sky. The beach is often deserted and you can literally walk for miles along the flat sand. Alternatively hire a quad bike or try horse riding along the beach.
Visit Cape Reinga
Cape Reinga is a must when you visit the Far North – located the tip of New Zealand where two oceans meet, it's a place of deep spiritual significance to Maori where it is said that the spirits of the dead depart Aotearoa. The easiest way to do this is to join local company Sand Safaris on a one-day bus tour to Cape Reinga. You will have an experience to remember.
Cape Reinga Bus tours depart daily from Ahipara at 8.30am and cost from $60 per adult.
You can also drive yourself to Cape Reinga from Ahipara. The journey takes approximately 2 hours each way (excluding stop-offs). Drop into Ancient Kauri Kingdom for a coffee and shopping, and Gumdiggers Park for some history along the way.
